I enjoyed the first season of Tilt quite a bit. It came out in January 2005 but there was no season 2 in January 2006. Is the show over or are the creators just waiting to do another season?
Tilt did not show the poker world in a positive light but that was not the point. If it did it would be boring as hell. I really doubt that congress is going to watch the show on DVD and decide the fate of poker based on something fictional. The fact is that gambling is a touchy subject in this country. Even with all the skill in the world, poker is still gambling. There are a lot of negative things associated with gambling. Even Mike Matusow admits that he was once so addicted to video poker that he would steal so that he would have money to lose. A show like Tilt is just entertainment. The same way Law and Order makes New York City look like a crime haven, but no one is going to leave because of that.
i was wondering about tilt as well i watched it on dvd and it sets it up for the next season at the end
this is the first ive heard about its cancellation
that sucks
Maybe Tilt would do well as an HBO show. HBO doesn't care what Harrah's thinks. That, and they could swear and show boobs.
The WSOP broadcasts are very profitable for them so I can see why they wouldn't want the poker community to find another station to broadcast these tournaments on.
I think of Tilt as a work of fiction because that's exactly what it is. It's a fake tournament and a lot of fake players. So I don't think that what happens on the show should affect how people view the real poker world.
Lots of shows make lots of professions look bad--that doesn't get shows cancelled.
Things that do get shows cancelled:
Lack of an audience...most poker players didn't like the show, so who's going to watch if they don't?
Lack of sponsors...no poker site/casino is likely to want to be associated with Tilt so they aren't going to sponsor it. Sure, beer companies might buy an ad or two, but are there enough companies that ad revenue will be sufficient.
Loss of a better show...if Harrah's was going to take the WSOP to another network ESPN had a lot more to lose than they'd lose by canceling Tilt.
But if we as poker players want to educate the rest of the world, so that we can get poker legalized... so that we can get private card rooms legal, so we can play poker online in our homes without having to worry about what if today is the day that the government decides to crack down on online gambling, than a show like Tilt, which tended to associate cheating and violence with our game was not helping our cause. A show that showed poker in a positive light (much like the WPT and WSOP do) would be a great thing for the poker community. Tilt was not.
It was a bleeping fictional tv show, not an accurate representation of ANYTHING. Just like EVERY other tv show with a bleeping script!
I think you just changed my mind. If you can't understand that, maybe a lot of people would immediately think Michael Madsen when they saw a card game on tv.... Jesus Christ..
Who watches ESPN for movies/ shows with storylines, only watch it for sports or poker.
And isn't this what poker is all about, folks?
It was a good story line. But controversial to the poker community. I guess that is why people think FTP is rigged.
The original show did have sexual content, just no exposed breasts. And you know they would have used swear words if they could.
