I agree sh4rk... it wasn't very funny... the black face was kinda creepy and I couldn't understand half the sh*t he was sayin', mon. The funniest part was when he did his Scotty Nguyen impersonation.

That reminds me, Negreanu did a skit last year... he announced the participants of a final table one at a time... he impersonated an Indian, a Jamaican, Scotty Nguyen, Eric Lindgren & Phil Hellmuth (I believe)... if I find the link, I'll post it here... it was freakin' hilarious. And no face painting was required.

I agree that w/ celeb status comes public scrutiny, but I think he's smarter outside the poker room than you give him credit for. Yeah, he's made some mistakes, but haven't we all?

  4.

Michael Richards called a person the N word. Daniel did nothing close to that. Are you even seriously comparing the 2 incidents?

Luckily I'm not Canadian, a vegan or a liberal... If I were, I might find your sarcastic comments throughout this thread offensive...

Yeah .. they're not the same person.

Michael Richards (aka Kramer, aka Racist Cracker)

    Keith Richards (Rolling Stones Guitarist)

LMAO!! I don't know if this was done by mistake or on purpose - but damn, did I laugh. The ranting-Richards was Michael Richards (of Seinfeld). Keith Richards is the Rolling Stone's guitarist who has plenty of issues of his own (staying alive might be one of them, however I don't think racism is)

Note: Only (insert race) tell jokes on their own race however whites are open game to all. As to target don't you know straight white male

boomers created all the ill's in the world.

It's not suppose to be like this though. WE ARE ALL JUST PEOPLE thats it.

And no these comedians bust on all people not just their own race. Dont even try to tell me they dont. U might wanna check out a show before u do that.

As far as ur target, that is a perception thats out there which u and I both know is not true by any means.

Oh yes. I had forgotten about that. The Ted Danson example might be a better comparison then Michael Richard's rant. This is what Wiki has to say about the subject under their 'blacface' section.

I think Ebert has a good explanation for why some people find blackface routines offensive, no matter what the reason behind them is.

edit: Oh sure... Michael/Kieth... now you tell me they're different people Last edited by drowsy on Thu Feb 22, 2007 6:09 pm; edited 1 time in total

The thing that makes stereotypes so funny, is that they are rooted in the truth. C'mon, would you really laugh at any stereotypical joke if you, or someone you knew didn't have at least a little bit of the characteristics inherent in most stereotypes? Jokes like that are only funny to us because we identify somehow with them, either through ourselves or those we know. I'm not saying/judging right from wrong--just that laughter is usually good.

Also, I have never seen Daniel's black skit, (I would like to but the above link got me nowhere) but I know he is plagued by his doggie Mushu being racist. Mushu unfortunetly barks and growls uncontrollably at black people--seriously.

I really dont see how Negreanu being Canadian has anything to do with anything. (Or, for him being liberal or vegan for that matter). Ted Danson did a black-face routine when he was dating Whoopie Goldberg (back in the day) ... he isn't Canadian (dunno about liberal or vegan).

What was meant as a joke simply wasn't funny. I think Negreanu should be apologizing to both black people AND comedians!

LMAO. Yeah .. he should just stop while he's behind. I think this is a 'fold em' situation - and he'll be better off just dropping it. I can totally see this thing spiralling WAY outta control.

Get the **** over yourself. Not every joke is going to be funny to all people... Two Jamaican jokes in 25 years... Not too shabby. Why haven't you started a thread to defend blondes, or lawyers or priests?

What I don't get is the double-standard when it comes to 'facepaint' acting. When Akroyd did it .. it was bad. When Negreanu does it .. it's bad. When the Wayon's brothers do it (a la White Chicks) ... it's okay. Seems to be a huge hypocrisy to me.

You beat me to it ambitious, damn forum froze up.

Micheal Richards threw a racial slurr during a rant.

    THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY INAPPROPRIATE

dont get me wrong here, I do not agree with what he (Micheal Richards)did. Period

There is also a big difference between a comedians joke and a pissed off rant.

This is how it was explained to me by a black guy I know regarding the Michael Richards incident. If he was telling a joke, it's not offensive. Once there is anger behind the word(s), then he finds it offensive. Of course all people are different and take things differently...
