    They're making another movie?

I decide to write a movie based on Stu Unger's 1997 WSOP win, and I find out there's a movie in the works already. The movie blows, has more to do with gin than poker, and is released straight to DVD, so my plans to write the movie are back on. Now I find out there might be another movie?

    Cha!

I would love to see any videos with Stu Ungar in them. I just finished read the book One of a Kind and it was awesome. Stu is truely the best poker player every to play. I agree with Mike Sexton he would chew apart these fields if he was on top of his game

i didnt know there was a movie based on him... who was it produced by?

also, i heard that they might start production for a new movie also based on him... am i the only one?

  4.

Has anyone seen the Stu Unger movie, 'High Roller'?

    Easily the worst movie ever!

  5.

Stu Under made the sickest call, ever.

He called a guy's big all-in with ten-high, and won. The guy was chasing a low straight, and missed.

    TEN-HIGH!!!

I've thought this myself, there has to be some footage espn has on stu. In fact just now on the 2005 main event showing they showed a soundless 5 second clip of some one interviewing stu after a win. Also I recently saw them air the 1994 I think it was, any way it had Al Krux at the final table. He looked like Sampson with his long mullet hair and really buffed out build, it was funny compared to what he looked like in 2004 final table.Last edited by luvdoinit on Thu Oct 13, 2005 12:02 am; edited 1 time in total

lol, stu ungar was certainly one of a kind... its a shame he died so young cuz i'd like to see him collide w/ doyle and ivey and chan...

  7.

obviously i know that stu had tangled w/ doyle and chan, but i just wish that i saw it on tv... thats what i meant...

  8.

I'd love to see a Stu Unger DVD, even without the hole card cam.

  9.

he was a great player at the table, but OFF of the table, he was a terrible poker player...

great poker players not only know how to make good money at the tables, but they also know how to manage their money away from a table...

poor stu unger didn't realize this, and it cost him his life...

  10.

i just watch the stu unger thing on espn it was way cool

  11.

lol, then i'll make sure i avoid that movie at all costs!

  12.

He knew he had him. He even guessed his opponent's hole cards before he made the call.

I think sometimes people make bonehead calls, that happen to be right, but this was Stu Unger. I'm willing to believe he knew what he was doing.

Not to nitpick (or suggest that it's any less impressive a play), but I believe Doyle was Jack-high.

  13.

Doyle made that play against Johnny Moss.

  14.

Yeah. I was talking about the play, not specifically the cards. He put Johnny on the low end of an open ender and called with his own busted draw.Last edited by DevilfishFan on Sat Jun 10, 2006 9:10 pm; edited 1 time in total

Since this thread was dug up, YO DYLAN. I burned every ep I have. Did I waste the time and discs doing that?

  15.

go ahead and write a script anyways... maybe all of us at the forum can give you input and you could really make a nice script from that...

It was so bad that I let a friend borrow it and when he tried to return it, I told him to go ahead and keep it.

He took Doyle down to win his first championship (1980). I'm sure he tangled with Chan at some point, but he was gone before Ivey's time.

  17.

I agree -w- the original writer of this post that Stuey The Kid Ungar probably is/was one of the all time best poker players ever. I doubt he would have had as many as 30 bracelets though....I'd put him more at around 15-20....(Not trying to be a know it all...sorry)....

Stuey is in my top 3 list

    1) Stuey 2)Texas Dolly 3)Sammy Farha........I don't know why...but I am just impressed by Farha for some reason. He plays just about any two cards...I wish I had the caJones to do that.

PS - Something you seem to already have noticed, but I'll reiterate. . .put more poker in it.

Those are two completely different skills, IMO. Money management often seems mutually exclusive to skills which obtain you lots of money. Guess I'm thinking largely of athletes here. Or The Donald when he was broke after he got rich the first time but before he got rich the second time.

I don't know who produced it, but it was a horrible straight-to-video affair starring Michael Imperioli (Chris Multisanti of The Sopranos, the reason I checked it out in the first place), Chaz Palmentierri (sp?), and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi). Worth the $1 rental, but not much more.

Honestly, i don't consider that a great call.

I consider it the most lucky thing ive ever seen that his opponent couldn't beat ten high.

I think that the guy with a pair was last to act, but Doyle knew he couldn't overcall with only one pair. That's what makes the call on the river even more impressive IMO.

Someone has got to post when they show this again... I look on ESPN Classic for old WSOP showings, and I only ever see the 2003, or the year Scotty Nguyen won ('99?)... I know they show them, but I never check at the same time that they do...

  18.

i'm pretty impressed by farha too... i watched the first season of GSN's High Stakes Poker, and i was VERY VERY impressed with all the moves he used... he's a relentless, aggressive player who may seem like a crazy maniac, but he's actually quite calculating...

John made a great play on that hand, too. The third guy in the pot actually had the best hand & folded to John's bet before Doyle called it.

  19.

I get slightly annoyed when people confuse best POKER player with best NO LIMIT TOURNEY player.
