Nice to know the world is full of crazies and weirdos - and that I'm not alone!

I'm Bipolar (Manic Depressive) and also have an acute anxiety disorder that can cause panic attacks. I've been like this forever - but really started noticing it when I was in grade 8 and 9. Because of my dad's job, we moved 3 times in 8 months during that time, and the trauma of 'being the new kid' in 3 different schools right at the start of teenhood set it off. (What the hell do 13 yr olds know about coping skills?!?)

As a result ... there is a lot of things I 'prefer' not to do because of the anxiety. Elevators, bridges, crowds, lineups, busy restaurants are all potential panic inducers - yet I have absolutely no problem standing up and speaking in front of crowds. (go figure!) As a kid, when we'd all get in the car and drive anywhere - it was like I couldn't breathe. My parents thought I was just 'acting up'.

I was called for jury duty once - and just the thought of having to sit in a courtroom with people looking at me sent me into a full-blown freakout. I sent back the jury notice saying thanks, but no thanks - with a note from my doctor saying that I was crazy. Too bad too, it was a murder trial.

I never lose things. I can put something somewhere ... and three weeks, three months or three years can go by, and I still know exactly where it is (unless someone else moved it). My house is usually cluttered with stuff and I hate doing housework - but even in a mess, I know exactly where everything is.

When I go manic - I can usually go for weeks on only about 2-3 hours of sleep per day. I've learned how to control the mania to the extent that I absolutely WON'T make any big decisions during this time - but, man, can I get a lot of stuff done!! I have so much energy during those times that everyone around me is also juiced up because of it.

I don't have any OCD's to speak of ... no counting, no alphabetizing, unless it's practical to do so (like my filing cabinets, etc.). I'm a whole different flavor of crazy!

I started taking meds for it about 4 years ago ... and found one that really helps - not so much with the mania and depression, but with the anxiety.

I buy into RNGs so that an even dollar amount is left over in my cashier.

When playing a game involving dice, eg Yahtzee, if someone else touches the dice between them last being rolled and me rooling them (ie someone helpfully passing them to me) then I lose all confidence and believe they will roll poorly for me.

Whenever anyone asks me to do something (eg fetch a glass of water), I dont get up immediately, but name a time delay (even three seconds) after which time I will get up and do the task. Exception - something that must be attended to immediately (phone ringing, child needs to go toilet, etc).

I type in proper sentances, even when sending a quick message (eg SMS on mobile phone).

When I was a child, I used to entertain myself by working out fractions to their furthest recurring decimal. (I even noticed a pattern - the number of recurring digits for the inverse of a prime number is one less than that number, or a factor of one less than the number.)

When washing dishes, they must be done in the right order: glasses, plasticware, bowls, plates, cuttlery, pots. If something from an earlier step is noticed when I'm on a later phase, it will have to wait until the water is changed.

I have one that drives my girlfriend nuts, especially since we got thru so much dish soap we have a budget for it lol. I always wash the dishes 2 times, and after they are put away if I pull anything out I have to wash it again before using it. So basically everything gets washed 3 times each time we use it. Also, I refuse to let her do the dishes. I'm so paranoid about it I leave random items in the sink and if they disappear as if she had washed it when I wasn't around, I'll pull out everything out of every drawer and rewash them twice.

Also, when I play poker my chip stack always has to have individual stacks of 4 or multiples of 4 like 8 or 12. If I have an odd chip I'll either tip it to the dealer, or in tournaments I'll play the next hand with those chips and I will never play that hand. Ive actually lost several tournaments because when I'm heads-up I'll literally giv away my chips.

When I was a kid my dad was patching the roof. me and my brother were walking by and he stopped and explained the ladder superstition to me. I thought it was stupid so I walked under the ladder while he walked around it. Well my dad threw a shingle off the roof and it hit my brother square in the face. So whenever I walk past a ladder I always walk under it. It's kinda like a reverse superstition.

And no, I haven't been diagnosed with OCD

My DVDs are also alphabetically arranged. Before I get into bed I have to push it right into the corner of the room, even if it is there anyway it has to be right tight in there. Same with the mattress. I do this 10 or 20 times depending on how crazy I'm feeling. Then I have to push my closed door onto its frame about 10 times. I stir my cups of tea for ages to make sure all the sugar is dissolved. I hate eating with cutlery if it has even the slightest smear of grease on it. I wash my hands dozens of time every day. My tournament tables are exactly in the corners of my laptop screen. When deep in a tournament I make bets which make my stack even, eg. 1343 from a 11343 stack.

I think POKER and OCD are connected!!! We are all freaks!

I also do the alphabatizing of the DVDs, although I don't think that is really OCD, more of a practicality, especially when you have almost 200 of them. Not sure if this is OCD or not, but I always feel the need to be touching something with my fingers, most of the time it is just other fingers or my other hand, or perhaps my shirt or pants. Also can be shuffling chips, twirling a pen, tapping a table, twirling my keys, etc. Same thing for on the tops of my fingers where the nail meets the skin. Most of the time I just do a double kill and touch the tops with the bottoms of other fingers. Really weird, I know, but if I get the urge, and don't do anything about it, I start to really focus on it and can't concentrate on anything else.

    1. I frequently import my posts/threads into Word, spell check them, then paste and post them.

    2. I'm a bit of a pack rat. I keep my stuff in totes, bins, boxes. Each container is numbered, and has a text file listing its contents.

    3. I only write with 0.5 V-5 HI-TECPOINT Pilot pens.

Damn, I just thought of one of my biggest OCD issues. I cannot stand it when my cup, can, bottle or glass sweats so I have to either use one of those foamy things or put a napkin around the cup...if I have a rubberband (like I do right now) even better. If it's a bottle, it's probably beer...and then I'll only care about this for the first one.

I have one that I basically did to myself. Soon after I got my first car I managed to lock the keys in the car a couple of times. So I started to make myself touch my car key every time while I am shutting my (locked) car door, or even the trunk.

Now I can't not do it. It doesn't matter that my hands are full and I have to unload every thing onto the concrete, and I know for a fact that I have my keys because I was paying attention when I took them out of the ignition and put in my pocket, I still have to take them out and have them in my hand while I close the door/trunk. Haven't locked the keys in the car for a while though.

  6.

I only get stereos that go to eleven

I make the ring of teepee around public toilet seats

I have a laundry hamper that has three separators for whites/colors/delicate

I have to do every WoW quest in an area, even if I have to group with 13year olds or look it up on alakazaam.com ever since I bought the stupid game a week ago.

This would be like having a superpower at my house...

If I take a cup or glass out of the cupboard to get a drink, I have to blow in it (to get the dust out) before I pour anything into it... That's all the crazy I got...

  7.

i have 2 giant CD binders that hold about 140 disks each. and i am anti OCD about them. if i pull a disk out i will NOT put it back in. i always end up with stacks of disks on my desk. at some point i sit down and alphabetize and put sequels and DVD box sets in order while watching a DVD and i always forget to put that disk in the binder.

i just never bother putting em back.

  8.

    - I usually spell-check my posts. Haven't done it lately because my computer won't copy from, or paste into IE or Firefox.

    - I put all my junk in little blue tubs I bought at Ikea. I've numbered each tun, and made a big list of all my junk, and which tub they are in.

I do the CD alpha thing, but only in the car

When I go to Atlantic City or Vegas, I will not take a room with a 7 in it. I play craps and hate that number.

I don't like A-J suited unless it's Diamonds and then its push city (seem to always hit something big with that). And I always play 2-9 s or os

  9.

Just stick a vacuum on it with a soft tip. Gets the trick done.

  10.

HuJwang may have brought one of my little OCD's out with his admission to reading things backwards... but for some reason i keep it only to poker screen names...

if someone could only tell me what a gnawJuH is...

Yup, I'm pretty sure checking for dust in what should be a dust-free glass will qualify you as bat-sh!t crazy, Junk! lol I mean, come on .. that's just weird!

Hey Harris ... you aren't really living until you can hear the electricity in the walls and you KNOW the NSA is listening to your phone calls!

  11.

i take this a bit further. i alphabetize by author. and i put them in order of release. so my stephen king collection starts at carrie and ends at cell then dean koontz starts and the cycle continues.

I knew a guy that also used paperclips to clean his keyboard and then followed it up with tape to get all the dust removed (or was it the other way around).I would try it myself but I have not fine tuned my paperclip skills and am afraid of ruining something.

One other thing you will notice is that the majority of my posts have been edited. That is because I invariably want to tidy something up, or add some other minor detail after I hit that Submit button.

I've even tried previewing first, but even after two or three adjustments before submitting, I still see that one niggling little thing afterwards.

Good lord, you do that too, lol. There are sweatless glasses out there and that's all I use. I bought some real glasses for company when I realized I was offering them plastic lol. Besides, the sweatless ones are only like $1.99 a piece. So, when they start to look crappy, I just replace them.

P.S. unfortunately, everything sweats here in Florida, so the napkin works great.

when i play poker online or when im surfing the web, i always hold something in my left hand. no joke. its always something different, and i just put it to the side when i have to type, and then pick it back up again. i think its because i have to counteract the fact that im holding a mouse in my right hand.

If it rains on my car , I have to go dry it off so that it doesn't get water spots. (Not my Truck just my Car)

Sometimes (Not Always) after just finishing cooking dinner, if we are leaving the house I have to go back and double check that I turned the oven and burners off.
