What do you guys think about services like this? I want to start a discussion about the ethics of collecting this kind of information, selling it, and using it to your advantage.

They basically gather tournament result info on players at different poker sites. When you play a game with players that are ranked, you have stats on how well they have done in their previous SNGs.

They're creating a database of information that anyone can tap, and giving all their subscribers perfect memories for all the players they have ever played against -- and for many other players they have never played -- in a semi-vague good player/bad player kind of way. You can tap the Borg Collective to see how good someone has done at SNGs in the past.

Basically, with all the software people can run, people that choose to can be the 'perfect' player with a perfect memory for every person they've ever played, and have all the stats, odds, and histories without lifting more than a finger.

So, should it be allowed? Imagine I was playing poker in a rl poker room. I have a headset linked to a friend that is standing behind me keeping exact track of peoples' raises, folds, and playstyles, and then relaying the info to me via radio as I need it. Imagine my friend had exact records on many many players and could feed them to me for each. Would that be allowed?

The main difference is that a casino has much more ability regulate and enforce rules concerning this kind of activity. Online poker rooms can't even begin to start a moral discussion about 'crutch software' because they don't have the means to combat it. I know FTP has a rule that says that poker is a game of you vs other players, though they seem to be talking about collusion. Still, when you're running 5 programs and tapping a database that is giving you stats and odds, the game isn't really just you versus other players anymore.

One other point is that there is no gaurantee that information is completely correct. I know for a fact that on many players these data bases have left out tourney final tables and wins. So how good is the data?

And yes, I do employ PokerTraker and PaHud. I find it is more useful to plug holes in my own game, and only slightly helpful for info on other players.

    Good Luck!

I'm with se7en on this one. I don't like the fact that someone can look me up and see my win/loss record ITM% and that I may or may not be playing worse recently. If you want information about a player you should have to pay attention.

However, these sites charge money for their services and they aren't cheap. I doubt the majority of people use them so I don't feel like I need to use them. However, the pokertracker programs I don't use but I feel like I should start since everyone else does.

I for one have pokertracker, and I have looked up myself on pokerprophecy as one of my free 5 searches. I compared the results, and it's scary how inaccurate the numbers are for me. In the short term, I really don't see at as much of a disadvantage although it does seem extremely unfair that a site can make money off of selling this information.

I'm not sure what it is or does, but I wish its supporters would stop spamming the chat boxes with adds for it.

It is a questionable program that can give you histories of your opponenets past sucesses(or failures), and basically tell you if they are a good player or not.
