In the beginning of an NL tourney, I was dealt Ad Qc under the gun and I raised to 3 times the big blind, then somebody on the late position called and everybody elses folded. flop came As 10d 2c. Then, I bet on the flop around 3/4 of the pot. He called. turn came 6s. I kept betting again 3/4 of the pot and I got like 300 left. Then, he raised and he put me all-in. What should I do? I did call and he had A10. River came 8c. This happens to me a lot of times in tournaments and i still can't figure what should i do.
Yes, both hands are the Doyal Brunson; one because he won't play it (A,Q) and one because he won the WSOP with it (10,2).
I think you played this hand aggressively, which is good, but its also good to have an idea to put the other player on a hand. When he called your 3/4 the pot bet, you had to assume he had something. Hands like pocket Aces, AK, AT are very playable from late position and how many times do you see somebody playing A2 suited just to see if they can flop a big one. Bad position and not putting your opponent on a hand hurt you here. When I am not exactly sure where I stand I will either check or throw out a little probe bet. If you go out with a quarter of the pot and he raises you all-in, you have to figure him for a set or two pair.
Unless I am a short stack about to be blinded out, I need to have a VERY good idea that I have my opponent beat before I am willing to put all of my chips in the center. Sometimes you have to take the small (or even big) loss of chips to stay alive.

I've never read his book....so I wasn't familiar with this....but thank you
You're right.
There are 2 hands referred to as the 'Doyle Brunson'.
So he might be right.
its 'cause doyle knows what hes doing. He was probably on the button (or in good position) when he played the hand and he has the ability to get away from the hand easily if he feels he is beat. as for his statement in the book....its advice for other players...who follows their own advice anyway!
Offtopic: To the guest above me....I'm pretty sure 10-2 is the Doyle Brunson...correct me if I'm wrong though guys....
We should all know by now that Never and Poker do not go together - Doyle will play A,Q at a final table because it's most likely the best hand - If it isn't, someone will let him know...I think the key is to play it, plenty, but be able to get away from it if people are calling a big bet with no obvious draws on board. I think it's the same with A,K too - I play it, but if people come over the top (unless I'm all in preflop) after the flop, i'm able to get away from it...Personally I'd rather have 4,4 or a little pkt pr. than A,Q - the 4,4 doesn't get me in any trouble..especially in NL where you can lose your stack on any 1 hand
Back to the subject, I usually will not play A Q off suit in first position. You will run into far too many situations where you can lose a lot of money.
