I tried chip-dumping in the midstages of an MTT to go eat dinner; I ended up more than quadrupling up with BS hands, and I cracked some guy's kings with 4-6 when I flopped 2 pairs! Boy he must've been ANGRY!! At that point I stopped chip dumping and I ended up sitting out with my huge stack (which became all the way up to the top near the chip leaders) and continued playing after dinner; after dinner and washing the dishes, the chips I lost to the blinds and antes still left me with over 3 times the chips I had before I tried to dump them!

regardless of buying in and doing what you want theres a limit to the acceptable ettiquette.

Soft playing, or all ining just to get out of a tournament intereferes with everyones decisions.

If you wanna leave, blind out and let the fight over the blind dictate who wins.. not a random coin flip.

Most cases of chip dumping would be a raise of 90% of someones chips and then a fold when re raised. The 33s just got lucky cause he was commited and couldnt fold them even if he wanted to.

Well, what he was doing you could call chip dumping, but given the situation it seems like the player just had to go or somehting happenened to prevent the person from still playing. I mean he was giving his chips away to any player that could take them, not one specific person.

For all we know, he could have had to rush his child to the emergency room or something and he was just getting rid of chips to get knocked out.

Some players in this situation would just sit out the rest of the tourney, and people complain when players do that as well, so whatever the case may be, he may have been trying to just get eliminated.

Actually soft-playing someone or deliberately giving 1 specific person some of your chips is also considered cheating. However, anyone does have every right to just go all-in every hand, even on the WPT for $1 million, you cannot tell the guy he can't play like that if he wants. Whether or not someone at the final table of a WPT event would be that stupid is another question, but no you cannot tell him he can't keep going all-in. He's done nothing wrong, and in fact if I were you, I'd be happy he's going all-in every hand; after all, why wouldn't you be happy if your opponent is doing something stupid, no matter why he's doing what he's doing?

I'll sometimes do something akin to this if I have to leave a tournament in progress.

    Here's the scenario:

I have to leave the computer before the tournament is over. I know my stack's not big enough to blind off into the money. I estimate what size stack would be likely to hold up against the blinds until the bubble. Then I play like a complete loon until I'm either out of chips or I hit the ITM estimate.

I try to be a little more selective than the guy the original poster mentioned, but not that much more.

I was just telling a friend the other day that if I ever get my bankroll up to $1K, I'm going to buy into a $5 tournament and push all in with every hand just for yucks. I bet some people would get really mad, especially if you doubled up on some BS. Actually, if I doubled up with something crappy, I might start playing them seriously since they would think I'm idiot anyway.

he was calling river bets with 4/9 because he knew it would lose. Like i said, he was dumping his chips on purpose because he couldn't play anymore. I think you are overreacting here

but my question is why are you calling the bet on the river. A smooth call to a bet at you when you know your beat. I understand seeing if you can double or triple, but calling on flop, then calling on turn, and then just calling on river is not real poker. You know you are beat and there is no reason to call. You should fold your river, unless u are intentionally giving away chips. If it was all in PREFLOP it would be different. But it wasnt, EVER.

In my opinion you can do whatever you want with your chips, as long as you're not colluding. If you decide to give your chips to some random player then go ahead. What can cause problems is determining if the players involved in a situation like this are colluding or not.

Umh, maybe his kid sister took over the playing for a while?

Okay to be honest I didn't even read all of your first post because I just assumed that going all-in pre-flop was what he was doing.. But still, unless you can really tell that he was deliberated trying to give all his chips to his friend at the table (highly unlikely in an MTT since seating is random), there's just nothing you can do about it. If someone else does the same thing, just hope you're the guy he doubles up, what else can you do?

Im sorry but I just dont understand. What do u mean he was just having fun??? He has no business calling to the river with a 4 and a 9 in that situation. If he wants to lose ASAP he would be all in every hand instead of just calling. If he wants to play for fun, he should be at the play money tables. I still think that folding until your blinds runs out is best option if you must leave because you dont give a large amount of chips to an undeserving person. If this was a $1 tourney for $100 1st place I may have just chalked it up to low limits, but when 1st place is getting $5K+ you cant be messin around like that. If you are caught bluffing and lose that is one thing, cause im sure we have all done that. It looks like I am the only one who thinks its bad so I guess I am just to strict.

maybe the guy was *gasp* just having fun

They are his chips, he can use them however he wants short of colluding. If he dumped about 3K your way, would you still have started this topic?
