I like this idea. With so many players out there and so much talk about the Main Event and the WSOP, it's almost inconceivable that someone hasn't ALREADY thought of this, but even so, I love this idea. Look at previous HORSE winners, almost all of them are strong players.... This does not hold true in any other game.

I definately agree that a horse or shoe tournament would be an excellent idea. Only the best of the best would be able to survive a large buy-in of one of those because you have to be able to survive and win at each game, not just one.

wat games are in SHOE i kno horse but is shoe differernt?

They can put it on ESPN2 at 3 in the morning, and those of us who are interested can either stay up to watch, tape it, or TiVO it. Now that TiVO is beginning to count toward ratings, it may get a bigger audience than they might expect.

That's why I like the points leaderboard they've been putting up the last couple of years. I know it favors the players who are entering a lot of tournaments, but that's what I look at for who's had the best World Series.

Totally agree this should be the Championship event. Can't stand the fact that the NLHE event get's all of the attention . . . the true all around players should get the opportunity to shine in this event.

  6.

    SHOE is

    Stud

    Hold'em

    Omaha 8 or Better

    Stud 8 or Better

    Played in rotation.

All the games are played limit as with HORSE.

There are variations on SHOE of course. At an upcoming festival here in the UK there is a Pot Limit SHOE tournament which is Stud, Hold'em, Omaha, and Omaha 8 or Better played in rotation.

Invitation only is not a good idea because it could quickly become to political. So keep it open to anybody who can buy in. I think the skill factor alone, of having to compete in so many different games, would keep the field down. ESPN would never pick it up, but who would really want them too?

In fact most pros competing in the HORSE event probably assume this already-- even if the most coveted bracelet among them is the Deuce to Seven-- which may be why no on has ever bothered to suggest making it official. Although, Doyle says as much in this month's Bluff. Nevertheless, I think they should change the amount of the buy-in to 25k to reflect the the fact that HORSE is the real, if unofficial, main event.

Let the internet, satellite buyin, winner of the NLHE event have his short run glory and also let the general public believe that poker is NLHE and the way to play it is to go all in on every 50/50 opportunity.

Meanwhile, they should raise the HORSE buy-in to 25k, sending a subtle but clear message that the real main event is being played quietly away from the television cameras.

  7.

The problem with a HORSE game on Espn is that it is so edited, viewers would have a hard time following. It would seem to change games every hand shown on television. A majority of the poker viewers understand one game and that happens to be NLHE. ESPN cares about ratings and not the integrity of the game.

no i dont agree with that theres not alot of ppl that can say there great at HORSE. Horse isnt easy no matter what you say it reall isnt a HORSE main event would talk to long any way but i do think they need to up the price on the buy in to the main event say 25K would be good so every 1 and there mom woudnt be able to go and play holdem leaves the pool open for ppl with money and good poker players that make 25K in a night

  9.

I think at this stage the buy-in of a tournament is practically irrelevant unless its made astronomically high - putting the buy-in of the main event up to $25k wouldn't decrease the field much since internet poker sites would still run satellites, they'd just be slightly more expensive.

I do think that the title of World Champion should go to somebody who consistently won at a variety of games, like in the very first World Series of Poker (That would probably make Negreanu champion in 2004 by the way). HORSE isn't good enough because all the games are limit, and NL/PL games should definitely be included.

Did you know when they ran the second WSOP, they debated whether to make No Limit Hold'em or No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw the championshop event? When was the last time a crap player won the Deuce at the WSOP?

  10.

OK, how about this. Keep the main event as is, 10K buyin. But then...

A Tournament of Champions, with a $20K buyin, for which only an invite gets you in:

He was present for John Brown's trial and hanging, and he later went on to do something that would go on to have a huge impact on the USA then, and arguably now. Who was he? Try Wih - kih - PEE - dee - ah, and remember:

No spaces. This is the last time I'm going to remind you. =)

Oh, and it's a HORSE game. Would ESPN be interested? They would almost have to be, it's got only the best poker players in the world.

  11.

Shoe is the same as Horse except without Razz.

  12.

With as much poker action that is going on nowadays, there should be a poker channel. This would allow them to show a larger portion of the games. There are major tournies every week somewhere in the world. Then there is the seasonal WSOP, they can show some of the lower buyin games. Or they could show Horse tournies with out editing for they would have more time to work with. There is also the WPT and other events like Headsup. We see repeated matches on different stations, whereas if on one network, they wouldnt just have final tables to work with, they have the whole experience. There would be chances to talk strategies with pros and set up a learning hour, just so many possibilities I cannot believe it's not in effect already. Wish I had the money to do it, lol.

I'd agree that the leaderboard doesn't mean much and I do think that the TOC is just another marketing ploy. With the exemptions that were alotted to Helmuth, Chan, Etc., it definitly altered the principle of the Tourney. I think a HORSE final would be a great way to modernize the WSOP. When 30 or so great players entered originally, it actually meant something to win it. At this point, when 5k+ enter, its a luck of the 1st day draws type event and the best player usually doesn't come close to winning.
