While playing stud high/low I have discovered a great strategy and i would like to know what people think about it.

When playing stud h/l, I like to wait until i have three different cards that are A to 8. Then I like to raise all the way down to the last card that comes. About 70% of the time I have gotten two more cards two accumualte the low. I have found that you usually only see one or two lows that people get when the all seven cards have been passed around. This has worked out for me greatly and I have gotten to many final tables in the past weeks with this strategy. Also, when I am dealt two aces, kings, queens and jacks I play the high.

Tell me your opinion about this strategy and if it has worked for you!

I think it's a good strategy. Play only really strong high hands, and low hands. Low hands that stand a good shot of scooping are better, but any good low hand is good in the lower limits. Enough people play for the high to make it worth it.

I learned how to play stud8 by reading Phil Hellmuth's book, 'Play Poker Like the Pros'. Most of it is good. Playing pairs in lower limit stud8 doesn't really work though. Low limit stud8 is even more of a drawing game than holdem.

I realize this post is pretty old but I had to ask .............Doesn't this strategy allow your opponents to pick up on when you are betting on the low?I love when I have made my low hand while showing either an open ended straight or gut shot because sometimes I get the high hands to fold to me(taking down the entire pot right then). If I pushed my low hands everytime I had a draw at them, I do not believe I could get the high hands to fold when I was showing low.....just a thought.

I think this is a terrible strategy, and you will be eaten alive if you play it against anyone who knows what they are doing.

If you start with three different cards below an 8, on average you are only going to make a low 49.4% of the time.

To make things worse, your strategy is to play showdown poker, while the other players are going to fold their hands that don't develop on early streets while sticking around with the ones that have potential to beat you. You are going to take more than your share of small pots, but the big pots you lose will more than make up for this.

Your strategy does not take into account the cards that other players have showing (or have folded on early streets). This is a crippled strategy.

I honestly don't know if the original post is sarcastic or not. Obviously you don't raise to the end with three lows if you brick twice, or if someone has you dominated in one direction.

lol... I guess that could work in the lower limits.

Big pairs are trouble if you don't pick your spots. They're very good shorthanded though.
