Just wondering, when will the next Forum Freeroll will be. Thx
Just got done reading this entire thread ... here's my two cents ...
TILTERRICK : if this is the end of the Forum Freeroll, it was fun while it lasted. I only discovered the Online Poker Forum because of the freeroll. I have to admit that I am an infrequent visitor though. I came in second in the first forum freeroll tourney I played. I was thoroughly lambasted at the table for not being a forum regular and having the audacity of doing well in YOUR tournament.
I took this to heart and tried to use the forum. Unfortunately, the donks at the table were also donks in the forum. Not saying everyone was ... but if you are offended by this statement ... it was probably directed at you. You are the main reason I DON'T regularly visit the forum.
This thread devolved into a trip down memory lane .... not as bad as most threads which typically devolve into petty name calling and usually wander offpoint.
I was not a regular user of the forum, but I after a few visits had little problem finding forum freeroll passwords and I believe anyone with an I.Q. in double digits had little trouble finding them. Therefore, the freerolls would be filled with non-regulars. I don't come to this forum for valid poker advice, just because I rarely find it. If you are looking to learn the game of poker ... David Sklansky's "The Theory of Poker" and Dan Harrington's "Harrington on Hold 'em" are, in my opinion, EXCELLENT sources of valuable information. ( And once again, THANK YOU to the forum freeroll for these. I won 20,000 ftp points for coming in second and used them to get these books from the FTP store ).
As far as multiple accounts for a single player ... didn't have any problems here either. One donk accounting for eight accounts are just eight opponents I don't have to worry about.
If you are looking for other freerolls, they pretty much run every two hours. If you are looking for other private tourneys, there, are plenty of online communities to fill this desire ( www.railbirds.com and www.pinkcowpoker.com just being a couple ).
I don't know what problems the forum freerolls created for Tilterrick, but, I hope I can be an example of what they can create. I started as a complete poker neophyte. I luckily won 20,000 ftp points and got Dan and David's books, with the knowlege I acquired from these, I have built a bankroll of just under $ 200.00 playing nothing but freerolls in a little under 2 months ( And that's just here ). I am far from a professional, but, can definitely hold my own on the felt now.
Thanks Tilterrick.
Well +1 babaguru stevenash for the death of the forum freeroll. There's already gonna be 75k given away in MBJ TOC, how many free points do you guys want/"need"???
A few weeks ago we had a forum weekly with 100k points in prizes, which was pretty cool. We had <100 mostly forum regulars turn out, and we had a regular win with 5/9 of the FT being regulars. How often does that happen in freerolls? Never. As points seem to be the magical currency of the forum what about adding super duper extra points to the forum weeklys, theyre affordable for the micro players and the freeroll sites don't publish the password.
Well I first came in Jan06 but I've only been a "regular" since last September. I was brought to the forum out of curiousity, and a wanting to get better at poker.
I don't think the forum has grown any faster than online poker or full tilt have, they're about proportional. We picked up a lot of new people when PR and DR stopped doing US business, but apart from that nada.
And as far as I'm aware, none of the 'top' players on here were attracted by forum freerolls.
But as for your assertion that the #1 attaction of the forum is the freeroll, I think thats utter BS, the #1 attraction is the quality poker strategy content on here. The attraction of the freeroll is only there to those whose poker strategy opinion is in most worthless.
I have read a lot of post looking for the passwords in the past; some of them are quite entertaining.
I even feel I know some of your personalities just from reading them.
I am a member of a few more forums that all have freerolls. And yes, a lot of the members there also are just there for freerolls, just like here.
But check this out… The FTP Forum freerolls is a topic in those forums as well. Think about it. Those people that are looking for your password maybe a forum pro’s somewhere else.
You need to look at the bigger picture. The FTP Forum freerolls served the greater poker community far beyond the FTP Forum.
And if they lead to someone becoming a regular on your forum all the better.
I want to thank Rick for the past freerolls.
There are lots of sites now. Anyone who wishes could play freerolls 24/7 365 if they wanted to. I less monthly freeroll is not going to change much in the grand scheme of things.
But these were special, not just for this forum, but for a lot of forums.
cds....its always nice when the government is picking up the tab. Thank you for your service...what branch were you in? I am a NAVY brat myself so that is partly why I am partial to Charleston.
And I am feeling more at home knowing that ManilaDog is formerly from Florence. Are you from here, Dog? or were you just passing through?
I started a new job today so my forum scanning time is cut down considerably. As far as the discussion on the freerolls is concerned, I didn't come here because of them but I did venture into areas of the forum that I might never have gone to because I was looking for hints and in the process learned a lot about poker and who all the people here are. (I like to think if we were all in a room together I could tell who was who, just based on your posts). And really, for some of us newbies..the search was the fun and challenging part. That and it would be chance to play against some of you forum regulars. Sure I'd like to get my hands on all those FTP points, but I'll just find another way to do it now. Thanks to the forums I have learned a few other ways...it might just take a little longer. when I do get a bit of a bankroll going, I'll be sure to see some of you at the cash tables or at the MBJ weekly. I can't wait!!
Well, that's pretty sad.
I only found the forum because of that freeroll. I dug around last month looking for the password and never found it. But I saw plenty of forumers saying to the "password panhandlers" that if they got involved with the forum and kept up on the posts, they could get the passwords. I guess I'm a sucker for taking this to heart... cuz that's exactly what I did.
I will still keep up with the forum though... It's a valuable tool for poker players, and I appreciate what the forumers do on here. If I had known about it before, I'm sure I'd have been here before, freerolls or no. I guess I just want to say this to TilterRick: BOO
Rick - I think adding forum weekly's and forum freerolls are great. I would sincerely hope FTP doesn't look upon those negatively. Anything that gets more people into the site has to be good and it makes it a lot more fun to play with friends you meet through the forums than to just play the regularly scheduled donkfests everyday.
If the forum freeroll is too much of a hassle I can understand tilterrick not wanting to do it anymore, but it will sure be missed!! I loved searching for the password, that alone was great! The prizes were also awesome, how else could anyone accumulate all those points so quick. With the BS laws in the US the points provide players with a chance to turn the points into $ and play in other tournaments that you could otherwise not enter. Without a chance to win points I probably won't be playing on fulltilt anymore. Well hopefully Rick will have a change of heart or at least have one more "farewell" forum freeroll.
you think FT would hire you back (if they ever fired you) if everyone on the forum threatened to boycott FT?
hektar, I hear you but you can go to the forums at 2+2, P5s, and everywhere else and there are going to be donks posting bad advice. Admittedly the bar is lower here, but it's like everything else: it's what you make of it. If you want the forum to have more sound poker strategy -- post it.
Also, there are some sound poker players in this forum too.
Tiera Star now that you are pro can you tell me what the min transfer is?
No more forum freerolls... Sad to see them go, the first forum freeroll is the only reason i knew FTP even had a forum. It is a great way to get new members, but some times the bad out weighs the good...
Wow I skipped this thread the last few days.... no wonder I didn't see any other FT Forum Monthly Freeroll thread.
So are the freerolls totally gone?
Why not just do like the PPA does and automatically sign up everyone with 100 posts or something like that... or at least send them a e-mail with a link to use to self register into the Forum Monthly.
So I guess I won't be able to play with most of you regulars anymore. Until I can get a ton of money onto FT.
A fire eyes wrote and I reitterate:

Those who come trolling for the pass, very rarely stick around and contribute anyting worthwhile(yes there are exceptions)
I am most grateful for the work that tilterrick does for us, and hate to see the frerolls go, but if it is making things miserable for him and the mods then so be it.
I like the idea of the $1 entry fee, would keep alot of the trolls out.
I'm glad the freerolls are gone. I was tired of Rick calling my wife and scheduling them when I couldn't play. I mean really, what did I ever do to you Rick?
I would also like to point out that I came to this forum for info on a freeroll:
That was my first post here. I was trying to get a leg up on the Fantasy Poker League freerolls. Of course my third ever post was:
A few of the posters who have joined as a result of the forum freerolls may turn out to make 2200 posts over the next year -- and some of those posts may even be useful. It's really to early to tell. I don't really have a point to make here, I just wanted to provide a counterpoint to the 'no useful contributions come from freerollers' POV.
If the Forum Freeroll is dead, please give us more $1 Forum tourns then! I love 'em... but please, with no rebuys or add-ons! That screwed me last Saturday...
Once for the forum weekly, and once or twice before that (TilterRicks Surprize) I believe.
Or maybe FTP payouts more often. Something to make up for no more forum freerolls. Maybe even one game Saturday with cash payouts, then a game Sunday with FTP payouts.
Questions: When the next NLHE weekly forum tournament starts, how will I know? Last time, I missed part of the season. Do I need to keep checking back under private tournaments every few days so I won't miss the next one? Also, let's say I am trying to catch TilterRick's latest question quickly. What's the best way with this system to do it? If I just keep looking at the last message posted, I seem to miss new questions until they have already been answered.
do a freeroll where your starting stack is determined by your post count.
I am a forum regular, but only participated in ONE freeroll (because I only read 2-3 sections of the forum, almost never the private tourney section).
I completely understand the reason for quitting it, but it's a shame regardless. I have seen the freeroll password posted on poker boards here and there by weenies sharing their info to their buddies; pissed me off.
I know a way to stop it (Rick, if you want me to tell you how PM me).
JL
bad beat girl keep in mind that when i lived in HH the Military was paying for it lol but went all over the place when i lived down there welcome to the forum
well, the forum freeroll was also the reason why i came and also how i found out there was a forum...
they were definitely fun while they lasted. a lot of hard work looking though
The last 5-ish pages of this thread are about TilterRick not having any more Forum Freerolls.
I do like the idea of having the forum freeroll open to the multiple posters(300 was mentioned). I'm no where near that yet, but I can understand the logic of "paying your dues". But I'm pretty disgusted by the attitude some of you regulars have that new people have nothing to contribute. Even the password panhandlers provided you with a lot of entertainment with the wild goose chases and such.

wow..bummer, but i prefer the weekly anyways.
better play.
answer 1 of tilterricks questions in the private forum part
im not asking for the password but has the password for the ftp forum weekly been posted anywhere for may 19?
Thanks Rick for all your hard work put into this site and forum.
The Forum Freerolls will be missed, but those of us who really
support you and your efforts will understand. I am sure you have
quite a full plate. 8)
PS I still need a Left handed pitcher....lol
TilterRick, I forget whether or not there are bounties for the forum weekly? If so, what are they and who are the bounties on?
Thats an interesting opinion. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, since you've been here longer. So, lets say your right about the #1 attraction: Then "Quality poker strategy posts" are what bring EVERYBODY with something of value to say. Beyond that, everyone that was attracted to the forum by the freeroll is a donk? I just dont see that.
How often are the payouts for the forum weekly in FTPs?
Guess that depends 2 High......Are you saying that based on the theory that "there are enough people here, lets leave it alone"?
Questions to ponder.......
1. What brought you to the forum?
2. How has the forum grown in the past?
3. How many people have contributed quality poker threads that were originally drawn in from the freeroll?
I honestly cant answer these because I have only been here for a couple of months, but some of you "long timers" maybe can.
I thought that was their purpose, to pump up traffic at the forum?
or.... did you mean the existing forum members get too crazy?
Is it just me, or has it been quite some time since the last forum freeroll?
The payouts for the upcoming forum freeroll will be in the form of FTP points; $26 tokens will also be rewarded to anyone who knocks out BOYNAMEDSUE, GripHoldOn, Gypsydc, or KGBLovesOreos.
Interesting question. If they let me go, I think it would be for good.
I also think adding prizes to the tournaments makes them a lot more fun, and that's why I do it. I also appreciate all the help that the Forum does for the company, and it's players.
This is May . I hope this is a belated April fools joke. A forum without a freeroll is like a dog without a bone, There's only one thing worse in this universe, That's no Aunt Jemima pancakes at all lol
Yes, you will receive 25K FTP points. You can use these to purchase items from the store or as buy-ins to a variety of tournaments and sit & goes.
Last time I looked, FTP points had a value range of $6-$10/1K (points). A brief visit to the "Full Tilt Store" thread will give you a better idea of the going rates for points. FTP points cannot be transferred or actually sold. Players offering points for sale will offer to buy someone an item from the store, in exchange for (most commonly) a cash transfer to their FTP account; once again, visit the aforementioned forum section to get a better sense of how transactions are executed. The more we talk about the freeroll, the less chance he will bring it back. Rick was absolutely right when he said "they make the forum go crazy."
I have been reading these forums for strategy trying to get better and was curious are these forum freerolls for money or play chips?
No more freerolls. They make the forum go crazy.
Yes, keep the forum freeroll going. But to keep it for forumers, PM the password to those with 300+ posts. Or if that isn't fool proof enough, charge $1 for it plus the password. I'd pay a dollar for a chance to win 10000 ftp's. That way it narrows the field. And if people are still angry get rid of it. I still have MBJ and nightly games to attend, so either way im good.
Thanks for having them thus far Rick, I appreciate it. You do a lot of things for this site that im sure go unoticed with the higher ups. You deserve a raise and lots of beautiful women.
sorry didnt read your post about the bounties
Atleast you got to play.
Thanks for the fast replies
I'll keep a look out for the next one
when is this freeroll and how do i get into them?
Cheers
Now you can go back Manilla . You know someone that isn't her friend. Orrrrrr Maybe she is. Orrrr Maybe it's her mmmm Do you like pina coladas? lol
Im not offended. Very good post. See you are in Austin. Was there 30 yrs ago at Armadillo World Headquarters, saw Average White Band, also Barton Springs Lake. As a young lad in my 20s I was very impressed by the beautiful topless Texas women. Almost heaven. What a great place!!
yea, it was a lot of fun.
i played pretty badly though + i sat out a lot (busy day ) and still got in 13th place ! and that's probably because i tilted after sitting out for a while and coming back to see my AA being folded it wouldve been a NICE pot too.
congrats on the win, devilz.
Only TilterRick knows.
